"Crust – This is the thin outer layer where we live. It ranges from about 5 km thick under the oceans to about 30–50 km thick under continents. Mantle – Beneath the crust, the mantle extends to a depth of about 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles). It's made of semi-solid rock that moves slowly over time. The mantle is divided into the upper and lower mantle. Outer Core – Beneath the mantle, the outer core starts around 2,900 km deep and extends to about 5,150 km. It is composed of liquid iron and nickel and generates Earth’s magnetic field. Inner Core – The innermost layer, the inner core, begins around 5,150 km deep and extends to the Earth’s center at about 6,371 km. It is solid and made of iron and nickel." image uploaded on Feb. 5, 2025, 8:27 a.m. | Damadam
